? Profile

Before establishing Paris-based Wilson & Associates in 1995, Michael Wilson’s career covered a wide range of entrepreneurial activities. In the 1980s, while living in Newport, Rhode Island, he designed a sailing/sports product, for which he still holds a design trademark and patent, as well as working in sports marketing where he established a sailing Pentathlon for the America’s Cup teams. Some of his other projects included: producing and directing documentary films on the America’s Cup in 1983 and 1987 and a television special, "The 1986 Rolex Gold Cup" polo tournament for FNN.

Moving to Paris in 1989, he worked, for five years as an Interior Design Project Manager for Polo Ralph Lauren where he helped to plan and open more than 60 Polo stores and showrooms across Europe. This background gave him a unique experience managing large budgets in which his responsibilities included purchasing art and antiques in every European market. With these qualifications, he founded Wilson & Associates to provide exclusive services for clients looking a real design alternative and who are wanting to source and purchase design furniture, art, antiques and other rare objects.

Known for his broad knowledge in the Decorative Arts and impeccable sense of style, he attracted a prestigious international clientele of noted business and entertainment figures as well as some of the worlds most important architects, interior designers, decorators and collectors. In addition to working with individual clients, Michael Wilson has worked on design projects for luxuary brands including: Hermes and Van Cleef & Arpels.

Through its extensive repertoire of resources and industry contacts the company, which offers professional art, antiques and design services, and exclusive VIP services, he has earned a solid reputation with clients and professionals for creativity, expertise, professionalism and discretion.

Michael Wilson’s ongoing research on the history and development of style formed the basis for his course, "Furniture Design and Style" at the IESA (Institute Arts Superior) in Paris. His photo archive, consisting of over 70,000 photographs is a resource for scholars and students. He also continues to expand his video archive of over 180 hours of the major European art and antiques fairs including: Paris’s Biennale des Antiquaires , Maastricht’s TAAF , and London’s Grosvenor House. In addition to providing his clients with expert services for these events, he specializes in visiting the secret locations, warehouses, and private collections not open to the public, including the world’s most important private dealer.

Current projects include:

--- Publishing The Wilson Report: a unique preview of personally selected items chosen for their extraordinary quality, value and style.

--- Developing a 12 part television series and museum exhibition "The Evolution of Style" tracing major design developments and influences through the ages.

The expert sourcing and acquisition services is unparalleled in professionalism for art, antique furnishings, architectural antiques, design accessories, and other rare decorative or collectable objects.

The company’s specialty: interior design project management specializing in searching for, negotiating and purchasing European art and antiques from a wide range of categories and eras. Our goal is to help our clients make ascetically appropriate informed purchase decisions, while also offering uniquely personalized services that include: interior design aesthetic concepts, collecting and acquisition strategy including organizing personally guided buying trips throughout the International art and antique market, pre-shopping research, sourcing, analysis of markets, documentation and expert appraisals, handling, shipping and delivery coordination. We are uniquely qualified to find and facilitate the purchase of some of the most notable pieces in the market today. And because we know the market so well –including the secret locations where the world’s best dealers purchase their stock –we are generally able to do this at a significant saving of both time and money.

Offering a real design alternative and democratizing the arcane, and often impenetrable, world of art, antiques and design is our goal and the more transparency we can bring to our clients the better. We define success by the strength of our client relationships and it is no surprise that 95% of Wilson & Associates’ new business comes via recommendations from other satisfied customers.
